Sideline App

There's an app called Sideline that allows you to create a second phone number on your phone. How does this compare to having a completely separate hobby phone? I'm just try to spend my money as wisely as possible. Thank in advance for any input/advice.

I don't know about that particular app. I use Google Voice, which essentially does the same thing. It is free. It is convenient. For me, it is more discrete than carrying around two phones. Google voice can be used as an app on a phone or on the computer. If you have someone who might go snooping through your phone then a burner phone might be a better option. There are other pros and cons amongst the different apps that offer these features.

I use textnow it's a free app and also gives you your own number
I use Sideline...it's completely free.
It's the same as having a second line on your phone. Texting and calling the same as your normal line.

I tested a bunch, Im a tech geek like that and I found I like Textfree the best. Big thing for me was one I could send images through and save complete text strings. Also I can use on a computer and backs to my email.

GV you cant send pictures and doesn't save text strings.

Sideline I never tried...
There is one set back with Sideline.
I can not get pics from some of the cheaper cell phone providers....Cricket, etc

Google Voice works okay, but can be a real PITA. Limited features, very sparse interface. Google has not updated it in forever. Does not seem a priority for them.

GV app works fine for me. I had a provider friend recommend the Hushed app ... she used it until retiring (it will give you a temp # or a 2nd phone # as well). Can't speak on Sideline though.
I think I've got a dozen or so extensions on the Hobby Mansion Switchboard....

On a serious note, I had text free once but let it lapse. The one thing that I hated was that it imported ALL of my numbers from my REAL phone and email. And then it took quite a bit of configuring to get my REGULAR texts to NOT show up on that APP.... to ONLY texts that were directly tied to the new account....
As I recall, it also imported ALL of my texts to the APP as well as soon as I signed up...
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks to everyone for all the great feedback and info!

Like the app Paulie used, GV does import my GV contacts into my regular contact list and vice versa. This could pose an issue for someone who requires complete discretion.

Set textfree not to import contacts. You have to chose to import.

And yes you have to use it at least one every 30 days. Just text a hook friend once a month if you dont hobby often.

Any of you can text me and say 'its my every 30 day text' haha.

I use GV for another business, have for about 6-7 years... compared to textfree I cannot stand GV now! LOL
