Brown recluse exterminator recommendations?

Does anyone know a good exterminator in the Lees summit area that they care to recommend? I can't say for sure that my house is infested but I found 20 or more within weeks of moving in August.

Not from the KC area, but try to find one that is locally owned. Don't go with the franchised companies that are nationwide. They tend to "water down" their sprays and they aren't that effective.

I'm allergic to spiders and have found that when I use a locally owned exterminator, I have maybe 4 spiders that make it in the house during the year.

You might want to try a service called Angie's List. It's a "network" (kinda similar to ECCIE) of reviews by people of service providers (exterminators, plumbers, painters, etc., not the service providers you find on this site) used in their everyday life.

I am no exterminator, but I believe they are difficult to kill unless you can spray them directly. However, a good exterminator will probably be able to reduce/eliminate their food sources, silverfish, etc. As for the spiders, I believe putting down strips of sticky glue paper in corners and baseboards where the spiders might travel is an effective way of catching them and reducing their numbers. I believe those types of products are available at Home Depot. Hope that helps.

Sorry I don't have any real advice here, but I need to say that brown recluse spiders creep me the fuck out. The very definition of terror would be if brown recluses had wings. In that scenario, I'd go with a flamethrower...no joke.

even after "bombing" my house with spray, we caught more with these traps...

Spiders are very hard to kill unless hit directly, like EZ says. Brown recluse are especially hard to kill because they hide, and they don't travel much. Chances are, if you've seen them, they aren't a brown recluse. Best bet? Clean everything, launder all your towels and sheets and put down glue traps in every dark corner and out of the way place you can. Now think about this one... bitten right next to the asshole, allergic reaction then necrosis and you have to have surgery to remove your sphincter... plus you get sepsis and MRSA and they have to remove all your "naughty bits", so you become a walking Ken doll. Plus a diaper for life! Yee Haw. Lets get drunk!

Sprays don't work on recluse, use the sticky traps designed for them with a scented lure. Be careful when picking up the traps, just because they are stuck doen't mean they can't still bite. Go into your attic or basement with a shop-vac and get up all the egg sacs. It takes a long time to get them gone, so keep it up for months or years.

Not everyone has the reaction to their bites. But don't take chances. They don't attack/bite unless disturbed, be careful reaching into dark spaces.

If you think you have been bitten seek medical help right away.

Not surprisingly most of us rarely if ever see an actual brown recluse. Here is a link to a site showing how to tell the difference and some really good pics of them and the ones people think are them.
