The shame is, she can really sing. I really don't care for her style, but she has no less than a 3 octave range with a good quality in each.

MTV, (and in earlier years, TV variety shows), killed live singing. People got used to seeing performers jump around and dance on Ed Sullivan or in videos while hitting every note perfect. Of course, any body with any musical ability knows you can't do that.

Remember last years inauguration when everybody was so impressed with Beyonce's National Anthem, only to realize that she had a back track helping her along. It really was her singing, just a couple of nights before in the controled inviroment of a recording studio. As a vocalist, she is mediocre.

It will be interesting to see if Jackie Evancho, the young Lady singing the National Anthem this year, will do it straight, or use a backtrack. She is a truly gifted vocalist, but the public demands perfection.

Like I said: If she'd knock of 30 pounds no one would give a shit about her voice ... as long as she showed some "stuff"! The stir should have been about a hot body in that outfit ... not whether she was in sync with the recording.
