Hot Spots?

Hello ladies & gentlemen of NO. I am planning a trip to your city this weekend! I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to help me figure out the best places to stay in New Orleans. I was thinking French Quarter? Someone help me out!!
That really depends on what you're looking for. French Quarter is good for nightlife and is central to everything, but expensive. I would avoid New Orleans East and Tulane Avenue because those areas are unsafe. If you're planning on "working," you'll want to avoid Jefferson Parish because of heavy LE, not as tolerant as NOLA. The convention center area is nice, more reasonably priced, and a block off the riverfront, and a close enough walk to the streetcar to the French Quarter, plus it's pretty central to everything, too.
Thank you! I will be checking out the convention center!
