Now, granted this has to do with injecting the medication! I'm not advocating that at all, however, like penicillin there's no reason to not consider an oral application. It would, of course, require higher doses and it would not react as quickly as an injection which would lend itself to a more frequent applications. At least once daily!!
A load a day keeps the doctor away!
