I ask this to better understand the "rules" of the hobby. What is necessary regarding tipping? 0 extra? 10%? 20%? I ask because I don't want to see a provider & not tip when I should.
There's no definite rule. I don't tip for the first session just because I think it's smart to be extra cautious the first go-round and to not have anything besides the exact donation, hobby phone, and car key on you.
Once I'm comfortable with a provider, I'll tip if I'm in the mood, or if she goes above and beyond service/scheduling/screening wise. I also tip if I screw something up--the few times I've been late I've always left a tip.
+1 Lily! Tips are appreciated but not required. If you have someone who actually asks for one, you just may need a different provider. That's why we have set rates IMHO.
I have a new policy of not tipping prior to the session. I have in the past put a $50 to $100 tip in the envelope. Two things have change my mind and it's not the money. The YMMV is now a consideration in my tipping. If I feel that we had a wonderful time then if I don't tip that time because I didn't bring the funds I will double the tip next time. Of course, sometimes I forget things because I have so much on my mind and I may have to triple the tip to catch up. That's a good reason to find someone you fit with and be a regular. I am not looking for different just good.
