They said on KEYE tonight that Dot's will be closing for good on Friday. This is my favorite place on the planet to eat. I always said that when I finally make it to Death Row,I would want my last meal to be catfish, potatoes, and greens from Dot's. I've got to come up with another final meal spot. Hopefully the Governor will call in time before they stick me with the needle, but I'm worried because he spends too much time on his hair .
Aw man, that sucks. I guess that I wouldn't want her to keep the place going if she doesn't feel up to it anymore, but dammit she does make good food.
I was really really hoping that the title of this thread that she was closing only for Good Friday, and not closing for good on Friday. I'm gonna have to try and make it over there before then.
Dang, another Austin Landmark closing. I was glad Dot's reopened after the fire a few years ago, but so sad to see it closing. Great Food, need to make it to Pflugerville before Friday....hope she decides to do a cookbook.
Well damn I was just talking with a bf of mine about how much I love good home cooking. He suggested this place. I had not even heard about it until this week. I am taking it as a sign. Must go to Dot's before Friday.
Dot's is a great place, although I always liked the old location better.
The place was/is a dive but the food always put a smile on your face.
I remember the first time some co-workers took me there. Pulling up to this place that looked like a dump with a line of about 20 people out the door and wondering what's the story here. Before I left that day I understood completely.
Dot is getting up there in age and she lost her husband about 5 years back.
Best comfort food, I love the chicken and dumplings and basically everything else that I have ever got there.
I wish Dot all the best god knows she has fed me well many times over the years.
This is a real loss for the Austin area, like the Armidillo, Liberty Lunch, Steamboat etc.
I never much liked the food after the fire and move to Pflugerville. Dot also stated that, in addition to her age, the lack of crowds was running her out of business. The last couple of weeks she hasn't had the heat or any air on and it was very unpleasant to eat there. It sure was good at the old location.
