90 degrees in my house today

ok...it got up to 96 degrees or so today. or so says the weather channel. that's fine...don't like it but i can take it. but that was outside. it is now 90 degrees here in my upstairs office. why? because i'm too cheap to turn on the a/c. i have plans to spend 200 bucks on monday. and you know what for too. but i still have not turned on my a/c.

bought my first house 10 years ago, and have since apparently fallen into the 'i'm turning into my dad' syndrome. for whatever reason, i have targeted june the 1st as my target date for turning on the a/c every year. not like i don't have the money...it's a matter of principle. or stupidity. but it's like i WON if i manage to sweat it out until at least the 1st of june every year. one year i went to june 8th. i was so proud.

and come winter...i can handle 62 degrees inside. thats what clothes and blankets are for. and thick and hearty soups and stews. but i will give in and turn on the heat if it dips below 60. dad would be proud.

am i the only one here that spends a few thousand bucks a year on the hobby, but have this perverse inclination to sit and sweat or shiver for some irrational reason?

but not to worry... it's already dipped back down to 89 here in my office.

My parents are worth a good but not great amount of money. My Dad built my mom several houses, the last 4500 sq ft. He always kept the house at 62 in the winter and would walk around in a sweater or two complaining how cold it was. My mom also but would never turn up the thermostat even though the extra amount of money meant squat to them. The last house also had a big jacuzzi tub but they literally never used it even though my father whined about his bad back.

Some people just don't know how to enjoy their money. I understand why black people are angry.

On the other hand if my house got up to 81 (from 80) in the Houston summer, my first wife would have you think the world is coming to an end.

I bought a 50yo house that has an attic fan, great for nights, must give a wind chill factor -20 to the outside temp

Life is too short to live in discomfort just because you can take it. Especially guys like us who are going to spend eternity burning in hell... we might as well be comfortable before we go.

Btw, unless you're driving a car from the 70s, I think that running your car a/c costs less than driving around with the windows down.

I'm a freeze our asses off type in the winter....

And my house is newer - so it's very energy efficient, including the radiant barrier up in the attic. (sucks for cell reception though, and no, I'm not hard wiring the damn house.)

At night in the winter - I let it get in the 50's.

Everyone has several blankets, and mine is a big feather blanket (temp regulated so it says) and I love every bundled up, goose bumps when you go potty, toes freezing off even with socks on, 4 layers on top, 2 on the bottom moment of it.

Oh, and walking the dogs in the cold weather...especially if it's raining....I get all geared up for that too. Got to make sure the wind doesn't blow up into the cracks and crevices. (learned that from riding a motorcycle...and yes, I learned it the hard, extremely cold and uncomfortable way.)

i get it. i hold out a bit because once the high electric bills start they don't stop for awhile. but hey, its only 75 in my house. i don't hold out that long.
