Weigt loss surgery

What are your thoughts on weight loss surgery? I am technically over weight by 100 lbs. I'm 5'8 and 231 lbs.

Don't do it man. Weight loss surgery would be ideal for someone twice your size. You can still diet/exercise yourself down pretty well at this stage. Look into the HCG diet. I struggled with my weight for years until trying that. Lost 35 first month and 10 every month or so after until I stopped. I'm 5'8 and was 278 when I started. Google the clinics in SA. They have to be the injections prescribed from a doctor at the clinic. None of that homeopathic drops under the tongue bullshit. Look at it this way, if you can buy it online (in the USA) without a docs prescription, its fake or the actual active HCG is a very very low dosage. Once you start the program its $60 a week and you get 3 shots a week. Gets kind of pricey, but you will know for sure if it works for you in less than a week. What I did was after a few months I knew it worked well for me so I stopped going to the clinic and got it on my own from another source (overseas) and kept it going. Saved tons of money that way.

A decision like that is best made between you and your doctor. You may have other health issues that either prompt weight loss surgery or prohibit weight loss surgery like diabetes, hypertension/high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and past weight loss/dieting history, mental status, etc.

Basically there are two types of surgery available; Lap Band, which is the less invasive and Gastric bypass which is very invasive in comparison. What is best for you would also be determined also with a BMI (Body Mass Index). At 5'8 231, my guess is the BMI might qualify you for the Lap Band.

There are many issues that you need to consider if you have the surgery Mike, and some of those can be very difficult to manage and of course there is the possibility that the surgery can fail.

IN MY OPINION, I would consider surgery as a last option. I would imagine that you have not had success in modifying you're eating habits and dieting in the past and that's why you're asking for advice, so this surgery would be an attractive option for you and thats understood but, I would also say that the BMI would probably give you less than a 100 lb. target and that would be my determining factor in not having surgery and following perhaps a different path .

Best of luck to you Mike and if I can help, PM me.

I know a gent who had it done and even though in my eyes, he was sexy before the surgery. He's just as sexy after.

I'm one who enjoys a good work out. But if working out and jogging doesn't do it for some. Then by all means, you do what you have to, To keep you & your body healthy.

Just do what feels right to you.

I decided to change my entire lifestyle starting with diet and getting plenty of exercise as time permits. I've lost almost 40 pounds in about 3 months, and the rate is accelerating now that I am exercising regularly. Also, I cut out all (okay, most) sodas and switched to water, and I swear it has cleaned my system! LOL

As a result, my cholesterol has normalized, blood pressure is much lower, and I just feel better in general! I have many more pounds to go, but my goal is to lose another 40 by September 1. Hopefully I'll make it, then I can worry about toning up!

I just don't believe in going under the knife to fix something which will power, motivation and sensible life choices can change! If you do decide to do the weight loss surgery, God speed, and I wish you the best outcome and recovery!

According to the chart, but everyone is different in their body build, muscle of course weighs much more so it can be deceiving at times to say the least.
Maybe you should really talk to someone about this and decide what is best for you. I can see maybe a few LBS over weight, but 100... I find that hard to believe. IMHO of course.
I just looked, if you were to lose 100 Lbs at your height, you would be on the verge of being under-weight... Again according to the BMI scale, underweight is considered 18.5 or less... at 131 lbs your BMI would be 19.9

Seriously think about it....
Thanks for all of the input. I talked to my doctor yesterday and he is saying that I have a lot of my weight is not fat and that I simply need to rethink my diet. I am getting a personal trainer and will be working out to lose the weight. Thanks for all of your comments

Thank you Mike and you are indeed a wise man for doing that.
