Korea!!

Hey guys,

Got a question for some of you that may have traveled alot or have been in the military!! I've been offered a job teaching in Korea, they will fly me there and back in a year, give me a furnished place to live, I get all national holidays off, plus 10 days vacation, health benefits, plus a bonus at end of year contract and all the usual stuff...

My question is $1900 a month enough to live on over there? I know they are getting more more technological and stuff like that so they're not as much as a 3rd world country as they use to be and stuff.... So was just asking for you guys honest opinions... cuz I'd really hat to leave the sunny and friendly confines of San Antonio to starve in a foreign country..

thanks

Joey, I don't believe you will starve to death. Seems like all your on the hook
for is food and entertainment. If you are going to work in the capitol of Seoul,
then prices my be a bit higher than out in the country.

Would suggest trying to find someone who has worked there recently and ask.
Its been a few years since I was stationed there (1998) but its a very nice country
with very friendly people. Hopefully someone here on the board has some
recent experience and can give you better details.
Thanks pops..

$1900 a month? Starvation wages! Unless it's in euros
just asking if it's enough to live on in korea, I'm not paying rent or utilities and stuff like that so it's essentially food and entertainment... and it's $1900 US and converts to about 2.4 million korea won a month..
PM kamichi warrior. He can give up to date info. Was there last year for a couple of days.
If you go shopping osan area is better than Seoul, my opinion.
I was there last year. It will be tight on $1900. Korea is much more expensive than it used to be. I know I wouldn't be able to get by on that.

If I understand correctly you will not have to pay income tax on that either since you are earning it outside the US.
Rent is paid for so the 2,000 is take home pay... so it's just basically food I got to pay for maybe utilities.. I'll be within walking distance to work and staying in a building with other english speaking teachers... So can hang with them.. Not going to be mongering doing it for the experience and to pay bills since it's so damn hard to find job in the states..

$1900 a month in Korea is pretty good since you will be making way more than their average annual income. One thing for sure is that you will have a ton of college pussy for the name of learning English from you. Just be prepared for bushes because they don't shave down there. PM me if you have more questions.
