I wish I could watch it. Apparently the show is amazing. Damn you basic cable and your lack of premium channels!!!
Not really, the books are amazing, after seeing the first 2 episodes of this I went right out and read all 4 of the 700-900 page books. HBO did a great job bringing that to TV.

I'm glad they didn't mess it all to hell by taking cinematic liberties with it like they did to Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. The final scene with the dragon hatchlings was awesome... can't wait for next season!

I love the book series! Number 5 is finally coming out in July. The HBO series is very true to the book, with a couple of minor liberties taken. The only thing I'm a little disappointed about is how much they have down-played the direwolves.

Anyone who hasn't read it definitely should.
Obviously I have NOT read the series nor will I as I'm enjoying each show way too much and appreciate each and every new scene. The "dragon hatchlings" caught me totally by surprise; however, not near as much as her surviving the funeral pyre.

Additionally - the daughter being forced to look at her father's severed head on top of the spike ==> and then considering jumping into the dry moat to her death was a very poignant scene indeed. The knight telling her to keep his handkerchief because she would need it to wipe blood from her mouth in the future says a lot....

Never got around to reading the books but very much loving the series.. even tho they offed the 2 coolest characters, Ned and Drogo. And being such a geek I had to shout "Oh my god, they've killed Boromir! You Bastards!"
Fav char now is the little Stark girl since she reminds me alot of my daughter.. and (no spoilers book readers) I'm hoping she'll be the one to off the boy-king.
@ Dennis The one think you lose in the series is the background about the characters, that would better explain her surviving the pyre amongst other things. They could have gone 13-15 episodes and not run out of material from book 1.
@Sanantonioman reading is a giant vice for me, when I was grounded in 8th grade I read Lonesome Dove cover to cover in 8 hrs. I could read all day long if the material is good.
@Shy yes the direwolves are being completely underplayed.

Tyrion is my favorite character and Peter Dinklage is just completely owning that role.

I'm not one that normally likes high fantasy, but from what you guys are saying about this show, I might just have to sign up for netflix when the first season goes on sale!

I was thinking of watching it but watched Camelot and started to watch Borgias, but Borgias crashd and burned real fast for me. I will have to see if they do a marathon of sorts and DVR it to catch up.
