They are useful sometimes. Often the written word can be taken differently by different people so when I say You suck Lurkit and add one of these he knows I am just jerking his chain. BTW, that one is my favorite. This one too, , but I don't use it often.

I was just jerking your chain lurk and used an invisible smile....but SWWA has a good point in that it does add some inflection to the comments.....and in the effort to honestly answer your question....I forgot that point...so I guess I will have to use them from time to time...
