Where are the aliens?

Traveling through the most amazing state ever, and I will be leaving Santa Fe for Roswell tonight, and staying the night there. I'm looking for stuff on that route during the day and after dark, that might give me the best view of the stars, and maybe some aliens. (You never know right lol.) Any travel tips are super appreciated, especially places to stay.

Not much on the most direct route to Roswell. If you take more time to go by way of Cerrillos and Madrid sotheast of Santa Fe and a scenic route on South 14 there’s more to see rural and wooded. You’ll have to turn east sooner or later, but can go through Bill Bonney McCarty (the kid) country near Lincoln, Ruidoso, and his grave is in Fort Sumner on the boring straight south run.
