Colin Kaepernick writes

“What have I, or those I represent, to do with your national independence? This Fourth of July is yours, not mine…There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of these United States at this very hour.”
- Frederick Douglass

He either misquoted Douglass or took his comments out of context.

Frederick Douglass July 5, 1852 speech

“I am a Republican, a black, dyed in the wool Republican, and I never intend to belong to any other party than the party of freedom and progress.” - Frederick Douglass

He didn't misquote him, Colin omitted the end of the speech that gives the speech a completely different meaning than what Colin was trying to give it. I think what he did was worse than just misquoting someone.
