Be safe, Play Hard!
Easy fix, lock your phone at all times. Again, there is an app for iphones called "where's my iphone". You can remotely lock your iphone from any computer and you can also remotely wipe the phone from any computer. I understand it is a hassle having to type your code in every time you get on your phone, but it is better to be safe than sorry. The only way police can access your phone is if you are stupid enough to leave it unlocked.
There is an app for Blackberries and Androids as well that allows you to wipe your phone remotely. If you enter the wrong password too many times it will wipe itself clean as well.
