Yeager was an incredible fighter and test pilot. The first to break the sound barrier.

RIP Chuck Yeager.
Damn, I'd thought he'd been dead for years.

"Is that a man?"
"You damn right it is."

From a movie that wouldn't get made today.
I once had a group of older friends who operated an aircraft sales and service business at the airport

they would, at times, fly me to places I needed to go

all were ex military pilots and they all had their own pride in their individual flying abilities and service they had rendered

they would gibe each other as to each others abilities

but they all knew and agreed as to who was the best and held in great esteem and spoke with reverence about one guy

He was from Hamlin WVa. A small town. I’ve driven through it many times. He joined the Military out of high school. He couldn’t qualify as a pilot because you needed a college degree at the time. He became an aircraft mechanic. As the war continued there was a shortage of pilots. Because he knew how the aircrafts worked and had the eyesight of an Eagle, he was given the opportunity to become a pilot. I believe he was the first P51 pilot to shoot down a German fighter jet near the end of the war. An amazing life.
