Steamed / baked oysters.. where to go in Austin?

LadiesFan's Avatar
I moved here from Florida about 10 years ago, and I haven't found anywhere that serves steamed or baked oysters. I have found a few places that serve oysters rockefeller or a Texas version with pico (Pacific Star), but I am looking for a place with a variety of flavors. Parmesian with drawn butter, maybe bacon and cheese, lump crab meat with a seafood sauce, BBQ with bacon bits... there were a few places in FLA that would serve 10 - 12 varieties of oyster..

... any suggestions?

I don't know, but if you find one, let me know. The first beer is on me.

I love seafood.

I recently did the steam pots at Joe's Crab Shack, that was pretty good. They have steamed clams and mussels in some of them. It was tasty.

Trulucks or Eddie V's. For good old fried of raw Gulf Oysters, the diner inside Quality Seafood Market at Airport and 290 E.
From the self-appointed oyster expert of Austin...

In addition to Quality Seafood Market there is
Pacific Star off of 183N (the gumbo is to-die-for too)
Pappadeaux (oysters and crawfish are SUPER cheap right now)
Sam's Boat (though I will NEVER go there again!!!)
Joe's Crab Shack (too pricey)

I can put away 3 dozen for lunch. I kinda like em.
Quality Seafood Market yummy
While I lived on the East coast I develped a fondness for the clam/oyster bars that served the casino, Rockefeller, ect. styles. You're not going to find them in Austin. They're pretty easy to make and you don't have to risk your fingers shucking the damn things. Buy a few dozen at Quality and do them yourself. Heat them till they open in about anything ....... oven, steamer, grill, smoker ....... and once they've opened just apply the toppings you want and stick them under a broiler element, a toaster oven works well ........ keep the broiling as short as possible to keep them tender. I've gotten addicted to smoking them using mesquite and then adding garlic butter, chopped spinach, grated cheese and breadcrumbs ........... ummmmmmmm

Thanks TC2, and everyone else that participated.
