A lot of times at strip clubs, unless you are an old and/or fat guy, most dancers are not going to approach you unless they are new and do not know the protocol.
If you tip on stage to get a particular dancer to come see you when see gets off, so has other dudes. So usually, if you one of the first tippers, you are forgotten about after she makes her rounds on the different stages, and if you tip her on the last stage, she will say you are number 4 in line. Your best bet in the stage scenario is to just approach her as she gets off the last stage.
Another good avenue is get a waitress to get a dancer for you, but do not let her pick, tell her the dancer you want her to BRING you, not just tell the dancer to come over. Tip the waitress after she brings the dancer to you as well, never pre-tip.
I would never just walk up to a dancer not on stage and ask for dances. To the dancers, it sometimes smells of desperation that no one else wants to dance for you, plus, if she does sensual lap dances or extras during her dances and you try to get her just after she finishes with the last guy, I hope you like what his scent is as it will be there. I would want her to freshen up so she does not smell like the dude she was all over prior.

A) I think grabbing the girl as she's getting off stage is a good idea, but how would that be different than tipping her on the last stage if there are already 4 guys in queue?
B) using the waitress is definitely your best bet in getting the girl. I don't think it matters if you ask the girl or if the waitress brings her over.
C) As far as coming off as pathetic for asking a girl not on stage for dances.....I mean, you're not trying to date her, you're trying to give her money!!! Only a handful of times have I had a girl say no to my request for dances while she's offstage, so I'm not sure why the girls would think you're pathetic? If I ask a girl for dances when she's offstage, I usually do it upstairs, as most girls walking around upstairs are looking for guys to give dances to. Sitting at the bar at the top of the stairs is the best place to be. Now, with all that being said, if you approach a girl very awkwardly and/or act weird, chances are she will tell you that she's busy. And in your scenario of grabbing the girl when she just got done getting dances, so you tell the girl she needs to go freshen up before she gives you dances? For some reason I don't see this going over with her very well, haha. For all she knows, you could have been getting dances from other girls for the last 3 hours, so how does she know you're not smelly?
D) Regarding fat and/or old guys, I do agree with this comment. If you're younger, a lot of the time girls will assume you have no money and are just there to watch girls onstage.
E) Another observation is that the Tier 1 of the hottest girls at BDD usually sit with their regulars and are bought offstage, so you will only see them when they're walking back to the dressing room. If they haven't been bought offstage, don't count on them being available for dances.
