In an effort to honor the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks from 2001, Army’s football program came out of the tunnel at Michie Stadium this Saturday with each player holding an American flag.
© Provided by The Spun The Army Black Knights huddle College football programs around the country are doing their best to show support to those affected by the 9/11 attacks, but it’s very evident that Army’s tribute hit home the hardest this weekend.
Army head coach Jeff Monken recently opened up about his experience on Sept. 11 and the aftermath of that heartbreaking day. Although he was devastated over what happened, Monken said he was inspired by the way United States citizens came together as one to support each other.
“I think that’s one of the great things about the spirit of this country,’’ Monken said, via the Times Herald-Record. “When we feel attacked as a country, we come together and we really want to protect our freedom, our democracy and who we are as a nation.’’
After reading those comments from Monken, it shouldn’t surprise us that his team put together a touching tribute to honor the lives lost on that tragic day in 2001.
Here are some of the top reactions to Army’s incredible entrance this Saturday:
The Black Knights are certainly making their fan base proud with their performance this afternoon. They currently lead 35-14 over the Hilltoppers. Christian Anderson and Tyrell Robinson have been the top performers on offense thus far.
As long as Army doesn’t squander its 21-point lead, it’ll move to 2-0 on the season.
