How did you find the "hobby"?

Sometimes, when I'm all alone and bored to death, I wonder how everyone found their way into the hobby....
I'll start with my story:

I was living alone, single, bored all the time. I didn't have a boyfriend and I really wanted to have sex. I was sex-starved!

I got a wild hair up my ass, and looked on craigslist, under the Casual Encounters section but didn't find what I was looking for. Somehow, I ventured south to the infamous Adult services section. I read through the articles and before I knew it, I posted a really vague ad. Now that I look back on it, I'm surprised that anyone responded. I didn't have a picture, and I wasn't saying much. This ad led me to one of the most infamous hobbiest in San Antonio! (You got lucky! I lowballed myself.)
Well, the next night I posted another ad and luckily for me, I was found by a gentleman who invited me over and told me that I would have a great time on aspd. A few days later he introduced me to some of the well-knowns during happy hour at a strip club across from Northstar mall.
I received provider status, and the rest of the story is still being written.

I grew up in a tough blue collar town outside Pittsburgh called McKeesport - famous for its professional strange. I dont think they called it a hobby back on Brick Alley or on Walnut Street back then. It was a blue collar town and everyone was too busy making bomb casings to drop on Viet Nam to have a hobby. Back then, the "hobby" was like being gay - it didnt have a name.

Just made economic sense to me. I could blow $15 ($14.50 if date got in trunk) on a condom from the gas station, Burger Chef and a Shaft movie at the Greater Pittsburgh Drive In, with a civvie that wouldnt stop talkiing, hoping to get lucky. Or I could for sure get lucky, and have my pick, from the pros in front of Walnut Dave's Inn down the street and then go hang out with my friends. You do the math.

Long story short, it was all around me. From before I understood what it was.

Fast forward from the back of that 1962 Rambler American 220 convertible (red, with white top, three on tree, vacuum wipers that stopped working going up hills) to the 21st century. We have picture phones like on the Jetsons, and the tacos are all shaved. Pittsburgh remains one of the most active "hobbying" areas. And here in SA, some of the pillars of the "hobbying" community are from PGH area.

Go figure.
