I was unexpected confronted by an overly aggressive attendant in the men's room who demanded tips and verbally assaulted me when he got nothing out of me. Here are the details.
I went to P10 on Sunday night (1/16) and spent a few hundred on dances and tipping girls on-stage. By 1AM Monday morning, I took off before the clubs and bars closed and before all the drunks got on the roads. Just before leaving, I decided to use the restroom. I stepped up to the sink and was greeted by a men's room attendant. He was in his late 20s early 30s, black, short buzzed haircut, wearing black slacks, black button-down shirt, and a formal black and grey/silver vest that looks like the type of vest high schoolers rent to go to the prom.
Before he could put soap in my hands, I used the wall soap and as I was washing and drying my hands, I immediately knew things were going to get hostile when early on, he was already getting extremely pushy with the extra things laying around the sinks. "Sir, would you care for any fresh mints?" "No thanks" "I have chocolates, gum, mints. I have cologne blahblahblah." "No man I'm good but thanks." He tried handing me a paper towel, but I grabbed my own instead. As I'm drying my hands he says, "Just to let you know, we operate on tips." I said, "I understand" but gave no sign or even a distant hint of tipping him.
As I finished drying my hands and threw my paper towel in the trash, he began raising his voice at me and taking on an accusatory tone as though I was essentially walking out on my tab! "WAIT SIR SO YOU'RE NOT GOING TO AT LEAST TIP SOMETHING?? THATS HOW I MAKE MY LIVING!!!" He seemed livid and outraged at the same time.
I politely and calmly explained, "I don't need any mints, chocolates, or cologne. So therefore I don't need to tip you." "Sir... I am a restroom attendant put here to provide a service..." I interrupted, "A service that I AM NOT USING but go on...." He was still aggressive and angry, "Look man you gotta tip me. That's just not right!" I said, "Don't you realize a tip is consensual, not an obligation?" "Yeah but..." "Then there ya go! Have a good night!" and as I walked through the door and was walking away, I heard him yell, "Have a good night you F#%kin A##hole!!!"
For the past 5 years, I go to the clubs every night in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Austin. I have VIP memberships at most clubs. To be honest with you, I have never been that aggressively confronted by a pushy men's room attendant anywhere in the entire state of Texas. All I am saying is, watch out for this men's room attendant who seems to work Sunday nights at P10 San Antonio. He is way too aggressive and confrontational demanding unearned, and unjustified tips. I described what he looks like and when he works. Watch out for him.
