Misconceptions about the hobby

I saw this thread on the New Orleans board and thought we could liven it up here with a discussion...

I had a friend/hobbyist who gave me some great advice about hobby life but before I knew this world existed, I had a few misconceptions:

I used to think this only existed in big cities. Escorts/providers/hookers in Monroe?! No way!! Wrong!

I also thought that most girls were managed or forced into this to support other, uh..."hobbies". Wrong!

Also, that a lady had to look a certain way to be successful. Wrong! There's ladies of all shapes, sizes and colors and you can be as successful as you want to be.

Before you started, what were your misconceptions about the hobby?
I wondered as I got older if the ladies wouldn't want to see me. So far not a problem but it may be because my money is new

When I decided to try the hobby in 2010, I was scared to death. My areas of concern were primarily with what was on the other side of the door, LE or a pimp. I was terrified of contracting an STD. Honestly the hobby has thought me a lot about myself, my performance and generally about people. Ive learned to read between the lines and trust my intuition. I’ve learned not to be so judgmental as the reasons people hobby isn’t always because of a dependency that society tells us it is. As for STDs providers are some of the safest. In my 12yrs in the hobby I’ve met women that I would have never met otherwise. Most were single moms just trying to get ahead, some were business women others were con artists. For the most part most of my experiences have been good. I learned early on to do research, in this day and age with the technology links theres no reason you shouldn’t feel some what comfortable with who your meeting. If I can’t find a trail or history of the person I’m talking too, we don’t meet. I have a type that I look for and a picture is worth a thousand words. You can tell a lot about the atmosphere from a picture. I’ve made lots of friends through the hobby. I’ve also heard some of the saddest stories that would bring a tear to a glass eye. As I’ve aged the hobby has changed and my type is harder to find. Now days I prefer a lady that knows my name and we have a connection as to random thrills.

Well, for me it's been thinking early when I first started doing this, ALL the girls in every ad was real!...experience has proven otherwise!!! I know Funroe is a small spot but I wished there were more providers available.
