Guessing on the Lady getting fired.
1) her alarms interrupted an investigation already in process
2) some one being greased above her is doing what he is paid for.
3) by raising the gripe and getting it on the news her city is concerned about being sued.
4) she was just a problem they wanted her gone anyway.

The workers sometime do have some of the belonging there, because they do take naps or rest. They work long hours but it's not always busy.
