Birmingham and Montgomery - Hotels and Eateries??

I am thinking about doing my first ever trip to Birmingham and Montgomery in early October. ( I will post dates in an later next week)

I need some advice... where are the best restaurants in each city? I love meeting new guys while on tour but I really love finding a great local restaurant too!!

What are the parts of each town to avoid? What are good hotels (upper end kind) in both cities?

Any other great advice you can share?

As far as Birmingham and upper scale eatery:

Highlands Bar and Grill (this has been nominated for a James Beard Best Restaurant award 3 years in a row and has won best Southeast before)

Hot and Hot Fish Club (nominated this year and last for James Beard Best Restaurant Southeast)

Bottega (owned by the same guy who owns Highlands, Italian)

Jinsei (sushi)

Ocean (seafood)

The first two are 'Southern' fine dining. All should have online menus

montgomery..stay in eastchase which is off exit 11..stay off exit 6 of really any where else in montgomery except downtown...thats real nice...great restaurants ..if u need an escort i volunteer...salsa,wenzsels,mr g's, the pub,lohoyas, garretts, ox yoke.siclairs at the lake.just depends on what u like...there r some great locally owned restaurants...again ill be happy to be ur escort and im real expensive!! just kidding my dear...ill take you...as far as an appointment with you im sure we can work that in as well....if ur interested...telly

I did post an ad for Montgomery but I had to delay Birmingham a bit due to logistics!
