Oh no, Mr. Peppermint died today!!!

Alright, it's the week of birthdays and I don't mind aging myself a bit. I LOVED Mr. Peppermint when I was young. I preferred Mr. Peppermint to Captain Kangaroo probably because well ... I'm trying to remember!

Here's the article:

Mr. Peppermint was a forward thinking soul, if memory serves. And wasn't his son a member of the group, what was the name? (I cannot remember a thing this afternoon!!!)

He was an icon to many of us Dallasites during a time of watching Romper Room and The Three Stooges on early morning television. Does anyone else have memories of watching that show?

I saw this too and wondered how many people would even remember his show. I grew up watching it as well. It was really corny by today's standards. He is the father of the Buthole Surfer's lead singer.

That's right because the last article I read about Mr. Peppermint, and this was several years back, it was about how supportive he was of his son and his son's band.

The band got stuck in Belgium or someplace and couldn't get home and Mr. Peppermint sent money and brought the kids home. It was a cute and heartwarming story.

Many parents wouldn't have approved. Smile.

Glad that SOMEONE remembers Mr. Peppermint other than myself!

Hugs,

I remember him well, shows my age. I think how dated that show would be now.

I just watched a few of his old clips, they're being featured and you can find them on youtube ... and yes, they're dated but I still grinned and had a wistful smile as well.

Kindof sad to lose your youth and innocence. Sometimes, I miss it but not often.

Sorry about Jerry, personalities like him are someone you will not forget. Because they were part of your formative years, they will always evoke a good memory.

My childhood was spent in another market, these photos probably explain why I'm slightly warped. Turn Blue!!

He later moved to Hollywood and became the "voice" of ABC as well as the voice that introduced "The Looooooooooooooooooove Boat".

One of his latter day promoters.

Yes, I too watched Mr. Peppermint, but I was more of an Icky Twerp guy.
ElisabethWhispers's Avatar
That's because although Icky Twerp was cute, he was more of a Three Stooges show type of person.

And GUYS/MEN/BOYS have always like the Three Stooges.

I swear that I never got how it was so funny but I still know guys who just crack up when discussing that show.

His obit was a good one as well. He was an interesting person!!!

(Nearly mentioned Icky Twerp yesterday, in fact!)

Icky Twerp, he was great also. have not thought about that show in years. These were both classics in their own way and everything gets dated in time.

Wow, 35 years, and 6,000 episodes!

RIP, Mr. Peppermint.

Gibby Haynes is the name of his son.

Remember this?

hi Elizabeth,

I remember I was actually on his show when i was a kid. big highlight.

Mr. Wiggly worm was my favorite. (I can take a box and cut a hole in it and . . . well you get the idea)

Icky Twerp was Dallas' own malevolent Ernie Kovacks. Every time I think of him in that goofy hat it reminds me of the Nairobi Trio.
Muffin: "Hey, your son is in a band called the Butthole Surfers...is that a bad word, Mr. Peppermint?"
