The Academy Awards last night was a joke

Anora wins best picture? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt28607951/awards/

The movie about the prostitute that marries into the Russian Mafia?

Considering the subject matter of the movie is the Russian Mafia, I suspect many of the voting members of the Academy got threatened and bought out.

I did not see Anora but I did see The Substance with Demi Moore and what Demi had to do on camera, she earned her Best Actress Oscar nomination and she should had won.

On the other hand, I am very happy Flow won Best Animated Feature beating out a Disney $200 million budget animated film.

It was also nominated for Best International Feature Film but it didn't win.

What the Latvian filmmakers of Flow did to make it on a very tight budget where every frame is the difference between a completed movie or no movie at all, without a $200-250 million budget like Disney has with each of their animated films, it's nothing short of a miracle.

If you have not seen Flow, you need to. Don't think it's a cartoon and you are too old for it.

If you don't cry, you are already dead and will require professional help like a coroner, a medical examiner and an autopsy.

Yeah the clips I saw were painful to watch. Yikes.

They also left out many names in the Memoriam segment.

okay, the Memoriam is for passing in 2024 so one can say Michelle Trachtenberg would be in next year's Academy Awards Memoriam.

But they did include Gene Hackman who passed in 2025, so the 2024 argument is moot.

I don’t think i have seen a single nominated movie in the last two years, and haven’t watched the Oscars for at least several years before that.

Unless Ricky Gervais is hosting, I’m no longer interested in these awards shows. Can’t believe anyone would sit through that crap now.

I have only seen:

The Substance with 5 nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (DEMI MOORE), Best Original Screenplay, Best Makeup and Hairstyling;

Flow with 2 nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best International Feature;

Alien: Romulus nominated for Best Visual Effects and Gladiator II nominated for Best Costume Design.

Out of the other nominated films, I would say at least 1/2 of them I have never heard of or even remembering seeing a preview trailer for them on the internet, on TV or in the movie theater.

The other 1/2 just didn't piqued my interest.
You need to see Anora., very good and up our alley with strippers, Nudity,fucking etc. I watched Brutalist all 3-1/2 hours, kept me engaged but not fantastic.

I am not sitting through a 3 1/2 hours long movie.

Plus Adrien Brody is not someone I like.

I read a review on The Brutalist that convinced me it was a film I would not enjoy, so I’m not wasting my time on it.

After reading about the plot of Anora and how much sex it has, I’ll admit that I’m now intrigued.

I watched Anora tonight. It was a very good movie. Given how poorly the industry is doing coming up with big, classic films these days I guess the fact it kept me interested and was well-made makes me glad for the awards it won. It didn’t try to do or say more than it did, and that was a very good thing.

Given the hobby we all participate in, the movie has some special poignancy. Fortunately, the filmmakers didn’t try to make it a message movie. That would have ruined it.
