Being scared of the dark....

If almost every species in the universe has a fear of the dark, is being scared of the dark rational or irrational?

It not that I scared of Dark pre say but what you trip over, it the fact who can see you and you can't see them. It like being blind. My neighbor have a black "stomthing I can't say with white stripes" even though the stomthing can see better a in dark and out smell me in dark clothes can out chase that stomthing every night.
