Audio books... HELP!

I’m about to hit the road back to the PNW with a solid 30+ hours of driving ahead of me. To stay sane (and entertained), I’ve been picking up audiobooks, setting the cruise control, and letting the miles fly by. I’ve even revisited a few I’ve already read in print—because hey, a great story hits different when it's read to you.

That said, there *have* been a few duds. Usually, it’s either the writing style not vibing with me, or more often, a narrator so dry they could double as sandpaper.

I’d love a few solid suggestions to keep my mind buzzing while the road blurs by. To give you an idea of what’s worked for me lately, here’s a list of recent listens:

21 Lessons for the 21st Century – Yuval Harari
(I’ve read the first two in the series too—solid brain food.)

Sphere – Michael Crichton
(Nnow I have to watch the movie—Sharon Stone & Samuel L. Jackson? Let’s go.)

Jurassic Park & The Lost World – Michael Crichton
(These were the perfect backdrop while roaming around Moab. Dinos + desert = chef’s kiss.)

The Kingkiller Chronicle + Bast & Ari stories – Patrick Rothfuss
(Over 100 hours of stunning storytelling... now please, for the love of all that is mythical, finish the third book already.)

Artemis – Andy Weir
(Narrated by Rosario Dawson—*swoon*—and grounded in real science.)

Project Hail Mary – Andy Weir
(Favorite of the trip! There’s a key element that only works in audio format—pure genius.)

Armada – Ernest Cline
(Video games, space invasion, and an awkward protagonist I deeply relate to. I’ve handed out more copies of *Ready Player One* than I care to admit. Yes, it’s way better than the movie.)

So... where should I take my mind next?

Disclaimer: If you're about to say *DUNE*, please just don’t. I’ve tried—three times—and every time I turn it off an hour in. Maybe if someone else is driving and I can risk nodding off, I’ll try again. But for now, it’s a sleepy no.

30 hours?? No good recommendations from me as I read boring leadership development books. Don’t wanna put you to sleep!

Buy some good gum and enjoy the stories!

I don’t do audio books preferring to read the printed version but in my mind you can’t go wrong with anything by Michael Connelly.

The Bosch detective novels or the Lincoln Lawyer books by Michael Connelly are top notch.

I also enjoyed the sci-fi novels by Becky Chambers. I thought that “A Closed and Common Orbit” was particularly good.

The MurderBot series by Martha Wells also quite good.

Malcom Gladwell reading his own books can get the thoughts going. His reading style sounds like he is having a conversation with you.
