budget bill: Musk vs. Trump

VitaMan's Avatar
"Musk criticized the centerpiece of Trump’s legislative agenda, a significant fracture in a partnership that was forged during last year’s campaign and was poised to reshape American politics and the federal government."

Musk said it is a "massive spending bill” that increases the federal deficit and “undermines the work” of his Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE. “I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful,” Musk said. “But I don’t know if it could be both.”
Musk’s opposition to the Bill is 180degrees opposite from that of most Democrats .

The Democrats simply want the Bill to fail. They will gladly take help from any Republicans in achieving that goal.

Voting against the Bill because it does not cut enough falls right into the hands of the Democrats.

This is a no win attitude Jacky.

It adds over $3 trillion to the nation’s debt

notes around the web:

Despite all the Republican noise and infighting over the nation’s debt and the deficits they continue to create, today’s Republican Party has long since exchanged what’s left of any“economic policy” for the incoherent economic whims of Trump. Consequently, Republican lawmakers aren’t being asked to pass legislation. They’re being asked to participate in a loyalty test.

Does anyone actually like this bill?

Trump had to strong arm several house republicans to get this bill passed. I’m sure he’ll have to do the same in the senate.

Fiscal conservatives don’t like that it will add to the deficit but won’t advocate for tax increases. They would rather massively cut healthcare spending instead.

Democrats don’t want any cuts to healthcare at all but they won’t discuss tax increases either because they believe it would be bad politically.

Our nation’s demographics tells us that we’re growing older and we have unfunded healthcare and retirement needs that no one wants to talk about.

Meanwhile we’re paying almost a trillion dollars a year in interest payments on the national debt.

The “Big Beautiful Bill” does nothing to help address any of these problems.

At some point the fiscal republican hawks are going to have to get in bed with the moderate democrats and come up with both government cuts across the board in all departments (excluding social security which is funded through payroll taxes) and come up with a modest tax increase across all income levels while removing as many tax loopholes as possible.

And if they can get everyone to vote for it everyone will have some political cover. It’s the only way we’ll get anything done in Washington.
