My first winter in southwest Missouri, I was out on the driveway washing my car in January. Couldn't believe it after a lifetime of winters in northern and central Iowa. We did have a few icy storms during my three winters down there, though. Still, winters even up here are relatively mild these days. But I hear you, winter is not my favorite time of year.
