A number of providers post WhatsApp numbers in their ads. Can those numbers be accessed via a generic texting app or do you have to use the WhatsApp application to use them?

Have to use the app but a text now # works but you'd probably have to subscribe to textnow.

So, you can use a texting app phone number in the WhatsApp application as your number and you don't have to provide your actual phone number?

Only if you use textnows app, you may have to pay for the #. That's what I use
