Did not want to hijack our previous thread...
Diplomatic South says.."slur someone because the way they were born" is not cool. Point well taken. As a side note the use of "douchebag" is in my vocabulary since it is non-denominational. Lobbing a slur at someone to hurt shows something deeper. And ugly. My intelligent, obnoxiously over educated sister we would call "tard".
The 1980s and 1990s: We would use the outdated "peckerhead" and "dork". And yes..we did use "tard" -as long as someone was not disabled. We would say "thats gay" as long as you were not gay.
Yet we encouraged our closeted gay friends and family members to come out, live their lives and some cases even saw them parish to AIDs. (AIDs made us rethink our insensitive slang and slurs when it came to actually being gay)
In our previous thread two of us used "retard" (me being one).
Ignoramus (living up to his name) insinuated I was was racist toward blacks because of the word "tard".
Made me laugh--did not see the connection--
But it did punctuated the pent up emotion behind the words we can flippantly use.
