The days of submarine warfare are, for the most part, gone. Their primary duty is being 1/3 of the nuclear triad and conventional sea to ground.

Plenty of action in the Cold War eavesdropping on the ruskies on that hard to pronounce penisula where they did alot of their sub were and missle testing.
