A good report from PBS Newshour on the impact of Ukrainian drone development and deployment.
They showcase a drone that costs around 2,000 dollars that has taken out around 4,000 russian and iranian shaheed drones which cost about 50,000 dollars each.
Whereas the US is using Patriot missiles at a cost of 4 million dollars each. Reportedly the US has shot down 300 shaheed drones with patriot missiles to the tune of 1.2 billion dollars. Using Ukrainian developed drone tech, 600 thousand dollars. Quite the savings.
If we want to stay competitive we will need to invest in a weapon system that can take out relatively inexpensive slow flying drones that won’t bankrupt us while doing so.
We can learn from the Ukrainian experience if only our government and military will listen.
