RIP: IZOD Indycar Series Driver Dan Wheldon

One of the worst crashes I have seen on an oval.

Very sad and tragic news. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, especially his 2 little kids who will now grow up without their dad.

Dan was a very good driver...this was only his third start this season. Dan did not have the financial wherewithall or backing to get a seasaon-long ride despite winning this year's Indy 500.
My heart goes out to his family and all the IndyCar family.

It reminded me of the crash that Tom Sneva had in Turn 2 at Indy where he also went up into the fence. He was able to walk away from that one. I have not seen a big wreck like that in the Indy cars in a very long time. With the cars all bunched up in one tight pack going at 200 MPH it takes very little to cause such calamities.

Dan will be sorely missed.
