I was just answering anaximander's comment.

If I could afford a G5, I'd have one. Nothing wrong with folks that can afford a plane buying one.

I have never understood why the government has to feed children. I grew up in a very poor neighborhood. We would all take our lunch bags and sit on the floor in the gym to eat lunch. Whites, people of color, all together. No one went without lunch, no matter how poor they were. And there was no hot lunch, either. We all brought our own. If a parent can't slap two pieces of bread together with some peanut butter, then maybe child services should step in, but the entire country should not have to pay for lunches for kids. That is the parent/guardian's responsibility.

So you want to give the responsibility for children to government. I don't. I think parents are responsible for their children. If the parents are not, then act in that specific case, instead of assuming that because some parents are irresponsible, the government must care for all children.

Government is not doing this because they are "nice" or "caring", they know that the more people that depend on government for services, the more chance they have of keeping their jobs and steering how they vote. This is not about feeding hungry kids (and I am all in favor of feeding hungry kids) it is about government power. That is all.
Most of you guys are old and likely childless.

The high schools are full of mothers with kids. Nobody is starving - at least not at school. For many the grandmother is taking care of the grandchild. Some schools go out of their way to school the mother at home. Some the child goes to school with the mother and is taken care of at or near the school courtesy of the taxpayer. The mothers are all on Medicaid, having their pregnancy and child fully covered. The fathers are walking around keeping score, likely never to pay a penny of child support.

Its not like during the 1950s-70s where there was the odd pregnancy for every 1000 or so students. Then the girl was usually ostracized by the school or sent away by the parents. Now these girls are celebrated by their moms and given a TV reality show.

Its the cause of the second generation of generational welfare. Don't think these girls are the next wave of hooktards and strippers. Oh, some are but most are just going to burden their parents and the govt and whine about their "feelings."

Hell, the giant agri-businesses/school lunch suppliers just got pizza listed as a vegetable on school lunch menus because it had two tablespoons of tomato paste.

Like Halliburton supplied our troops in the Middle East, these are giant, well-lobbyied-for school lunch suppliers.

Lay off the "big gubmint is out to get you" pills, COG! The corporations and their lobbyists wield far more power and influence than the school board.
