Ok, I have to give the advantage to Newt on this one. He didn't even call Mitt to congratulate him. This will get even more fun to watch, because Newt doesn't know that it's over.
That is an all-timer of an allegation. Newt seems to lack any insight into how crazy this looks to even the Republican mainstream.
I'd love it if Newt or Santorum were the nominee but it's just not going to happen. Romney has it, absent some sort of catastrophic fuck-up on his part and he's been doing this way too long to allow that to happen.
The more interesting discussion: is Newt really going to stay in all the way to the convention and continue to utilize these scorched earth tactics? I wonder why? He's never going to get a VP slot or any kind of cabinet position from Romney, or if lightning strikes Romney, from Santorum. Is it just ego?
Anyway, I hope he does stick around...not only will it be fun to watch the implosion, it is going to exhaust and exasperate the non-base GOP'ers and the independents will be running for cover. And, sitting there at the end of this vicious dogfight will be the President of the United States....with probably close to a billion dollars to spend and a nationwide campaign organization in place.
