HIV vaccine approved for human testing

"Researchers from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ont. say they have developed an HIV vaccine that uses the whole HIV virus, unlike other attempts that have used just certain genes or proteins from the virus.

The virus has been genetically engineered to be "non-pathogenic," meaning it can't actually cause HIV in recipients. The idea is the vaccine would prime the body's T-cells to destroy any cells that might become infected with HIV.

So far, the vaccine has been shown to stimulate a strong immune response in preliminary toxicology tests in lab animals, the university reports. But it will be several years before researchers know whether it's effective in humans"

I think that is a huge step! Does anyone recall the story of the first "cured" HIV infected person?

There have been several hiv vaccines approved for testing. None have it made it far. If you're not gay and not a needle user, its tough to get infected.

This is progress.nonetheless. but with an out of control human population, hiv is a necessary evil.

Yes, I've heard of people whose viral load has dropped below detectable levels. Cured? Time will tell.

Oh hell, I just responded seriously to a Humpty troll account. Now I need disinfection.

You are right about the fact that the HIV virus docks better into the anal mucuous skin, and the entry into blood is easier, if not much more possible than with other forms of intercourse.

But - we , I think, should not reduce this about sexual orientation. It`s a bout a sexual habit, which is "anal intercourse".

Am I right? Is that what you meant to say?

Vyt: About the heterosexual notion - Yes In Africa there is something called "dry sex", where the vaginas are dried out or heavily circumcised, which is also supporting the spread more easy.

Any kind of sexual intercourse can spread HIV, there are some that are more "common" to spread things, like "dry sex" (thru vagina) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_sex , or anal intercourse. But being gay or being hetero does not classify as "more easy to contract AIDS". I hope I pointed that out correct.

Nina, you're talking to a long-time Austin-based troll who believes he has a sacred right to unprotected sex and that protection is a conspiracy to deprive him of his civil bareback rights. (He also likes to harangue about how evil non-whites are just to mix things up.)

Vyt, as long as he doesn't do it here, he will be taken at face value. Like anyone else though, if the rules are broken, the hammer will fall. And, I think enough convo on this person as an individual has been had. We talk subjects, not people in D&T.

Of course! No harm meant.

Not a problem. Just gave me an opportunity to remind the folks. I appreciate that. LOL

I don't know about cure, but we harbor all kinds of viruses (herpes, chicken pox) in our bodies that our immune system typically keeps at bay.

It is Sad that it is so prominent in the world..The way it takes a human being and to see them suffer in such a horrible manner is tough..One day I'm sure they will get it done...

Let me tell you where researchers came up with the 6% number often cited with the percent of AIDS cases heterosexually transmitted in the U.S.

Are you ready? They ASKED people. Yep, researchers assumed everyone was telling the truth when it came to drug abuse and homosexuality. Really scientific, huh?

So if researchers fucked things up this badly in the U.S., do you really think the data out of Africa is that much better?

And comparing Africa to the developed world is apples to oranges. HIV transmission in the developed world is so rare during BBBJ and BBFS, it's not worth worrying about. There are other things (staph, strep, hepatitis, HPV, pregnancy, jealous spouse) to be concerned with but not HIV.

So, again, it has nothing to do with AIDS if an individual is sexually oriented in hetero- or homosexual manners.

The specific sexual acts are important.
Anal intercourse is proofen to be one of the major sources for HIV infection. Dry Sex (vaginal intercourse with drying out the vagina before) too.

To make this about sexual orientation is causing stigma to people, unwarranted and unjustified. I think we have to be very very careful with that. (Not to mention there are many bisexuals out there , too. ..)

I could only wish Africa was depopulating.

Heterosexual contact? Try "down lo" buttfucking, fucking monkeys(I didnt mean that as a racial slur) drinking monkey blood, etc. etc.

Woodyboyd hit the nail on the head.
