There has got to be a vegetable joke here ... Gallagher ... coma ...
reminds me of those old mad magazine vignettes where the rock star starts out playing music in his garage, climbs to headline status and then his career recedes to lesser and lesser venues until he's playing drums in his garage again without a tooth in his head.

It seems like all I really remember this clown for is busting open watermelons on stage.

. . . Frankly, I never understood the appeal, but his old trade-mark act always seemed to get laughs.

Can any medical professionals tell me why it was important to induce him into a coma after his heart attack rather than just let him be? What's the benefit?

The "coma" induction has to due with lowering body temperature to reduce inflammatory response. So, it's like putting ice on a busted ankle....only your heart and vascular system are a tad more complicated.
Everyone exhale, he's out of the coma and talking.

Anyone else remember when he crushed Chevy Chase on the Tonight show?
I can't find the clip but here's the newspaper article. Yes, it was very newsworthy.
