Grinders in the CrossRoads district and The Brick down town. Both have been on DDD.
I love the food and atmosphere in both.

As far as Irish pubs are concerned, I'd suggest The Gaf in Waldo. It's a real comfortable, neighborhood kinda place with excellent food. O'Dowds on the Plaza is corporate owned and that is where "everyone" goes to "feel" irish.

Steak? Too many great steak joints to mention, but my top three are The Majestic downtown, Plaza III on the plaza, and The Golden Ox down by the old stockyards. A lot of history and some damn fine meat.

The Westport Flea Market has incredible hamburgers! Not to mention real hole in the wall ambiance.
Swagger on 85th and Wornal. They also have a happy hour band on Wednesday if you are into garage/surf/punk music.
