Wtf Has Barack Obama Done so far

Information I researched myself for people who are asking and didn't quite understand
In his first week in office, Barack Obama did the following:
  • Froze the salaries for top White House staff members. This is a largely symbolic act, but might be an important one.
  • Set a deadline for the closing of Guantanamo Bay. Some of his supporters would say this is a great thing because they believe it operates as something from the Dark Ages. Others believe this characterization to not be true, and that no plan will be put place to determine what to do with the prisoners. Time will tell.
  • Fast-tracked the process to apply new fuel standards to 2011 car models AND initiated steps to allow California to set its own standards for auto emissions that are stricter than that of the Federal government. Again, this is a measure that some of his supporters hail as a grand step forward, while his detractors (or flamers) point out that it could provide an additional severe drag on the economy, especially in car manufacturing areas.
  • Signed a detailed executive order to ban torture and inhumane treatment of prisoners.
  • Asked the military leadership to engage in additional planning necessary to execute a responsible military draw down from Iraq.
  • Released the interrogation memos without consulting the Bush staff and/or Bush about it. And they were only partially released some of the information in the memos were not made public.
  • Signed an executive order that restored a 30-day time frame for former presidents to review records before they are released. It also eliminated the right for the vice president or family members of former presidents to do the reviews.
  • Signed an executive order that requires that appointees sign forms saying that they were not hired because of political affiliations or contributions. This is far from an unbeatable measure, but is an important early step towards cleaning up governmental hiring policies. It is easier to prove someone lied when their signature is right next to the statement in question.
  • Signed an order banning gifts from lobbyists and banning anyone from working in an agency they had lobbied in previous years. Promptly made the order toothless by immediately granting a waiver to a former defense lobbyist.
  • Lifted a ban on giving federal money to international groups that perform abortions or provide abortion information.
  • Granted his first TV interview as president to Al-Arabiya, a channel described as a "voice of moderation" to the Middle East. His supporters call this a very smart move to help angered nations and groups feel a bit less cast aside, and let them know that they need not resort to violence to be made a part of the world discussion. Detractors point out that this is the type of thing Neville Chamberlain would have done, though a TV interview and "the Munch Agreement" are leagues apart.

In his first 7 months in office
  • He's done quite a lot actually.
  • He has so far passed an economic recovery bill which has met mixed criticism but is slowly progressing. He has passed the AMD Stabilization and Support bill which was tailored to help stabilize and strengthen the United States Military, and has shown improvement within the standard. President Obama has also been working on other proposals, bills, and acts to be passed on topics such as Health Care reform, Education, the Mortgage crisis, the war on Al-Qaeda, and Domestic policy.
  • Promised to send additional troops to Afghanistan in March and began the pullout of troops in Iraq.
  • Passed the bailout of the auto industry and pressured their management to tow the party line.
  • Waffled on sending troops and allowed those serving no suffer from lack of support. (If you had to send 30,000 Americans to a war zone I bet you would hesitate unless I realized lives were at stake and I was in charge)
  • Refused to allow open meetings regarding health care reform as promised.
  • Passed more tax increases on middle America than any other President.
  • Encouraged Cap and trade passage to increase demand of foreign oil and raise the cost of our supply. (How does cap and trade increase demand? (See discussion))
  • Promised to make tough decisions regarding the ability to continue paying medicare payments. Cutting $400 billion from their budget.
  • Insulted police doing their jobs making the office look foolish. (How? (See discussion)

First Year:
  • Sent troops to Afghanistan but pulled troops out of Iraq (What planet? He has NT pulled out of Iraq!) we are now at 115,000 troops as of 2/11/2010! Zero actual draw down.
  • Made a more transparent form of Government (almost daily daily Facebook Q&A's with his staff) Has had more closed door meetings then any previous administration. Even his open door committee only has closed door meetings!
  • Tried several times to get the Republicans to join him and get bi-partizanship on the destruction of democracy. Republicans did not wish to contribute!
  • Passed a stimulus package that is creating no jobs across the country. This bill has given more to the rich then every previous President combined!
  • Well on his way to passing the HC bill which will ration health care to most Americans and help less then 12 million. The cost will destroy our children's and grand children's future.
  • Managed to have the two worst months for deficit spending ever. (The two Februarys he has been President)

Copy and pasting from a website without checking on any of the facts or conducting critical analysis =/= research ma'am! I don't assign much weight to a task I could train a parrot (mindlessly repeating something) to perform. LOL Here's one copy of the list you posted. It's been listed on several other sites as well.

http://www.columbuzz.net/index.php/m...link/3883.html

I find it humorous too that your second accomplishment (closing of Gitmo.) was redacted by the POTUS after the absolutely terrifying outcome of the terror trial in NYC in which Ahmed Ghailani was found guilty on only one of 285 counts against him. Why the fuck we give civilian trials to non-citizen combatants is, and always will be, beyond me. I think you can chalk this one up to political grandstanding as well.

I also find it curious that you list so many of these accomplishments as a positive attribute. The stimulus bill was a tremendous failure by any reasonable account! I've seen the average cost per job created at over $250,000 a piece! Any private sector company could have done 5X that amount without breaking a sweat, and they would have contributed to the economy in a profound way. Also, despite this "stimulus" we have incredibly high unemployment. The 8.1/8.2% number floated right now is complete bullshit as any person with half a mind can tell.

The unemployment number does not include the millions of Americans who have stopped looking for work outright, and have effectively left the work force. Take those into account and the number goes to above 11%. Also, many of those jobs created are low-paying retail/seasonal type of jobs hardly suited for a career. This accounts for a great number of underemployed persons. Take this underemployment and you get an unemployment rate above 15%. This is hardly a healthy unemployment rate.

Let's talk about how much Obama has costs this country thus far. The national debt stood at $10.626 Trillion the day G.W. Bush left office. Today it stands at $15.7 Trillion, nearly a 50% increase of the total debt in under four years. Is this responsible or justifiable on any level? Also, this massive debt increase has led to the United States' first ever credit downgrade from AAA. I missed this on your list of accomplishments though...

As for him winning the Nobel Prize for doing jack shit (to be fair though, he was quite humble when receiving this and even he admitted that it was unwarranted) I don't give much weight to a group of snobbish Swiss assholes who have nominated the likes of Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler for the same prize.

As for his horrendous record on "green" energy, very little positive has come from this. We've given billions of dollars in unjustified loans/grant programs to now-bankrupt solar, and other alternative energy companies (reference Solyndra and Solar Trust of America) with nothing to show for it except another bill footed by the taxpayers.

He has one of the scariest, most corrupt administrations I can remember. Eric Holder seems to finally having to face the piper for his lies concerning Operation Fast and Furious. Eric Holder said that the decision to try terrorist cases in New York Federal District Courts came after he consulted his wife, and his brother-in-law who worked as NYC port authority officer for years, and that Obama had no hand in his decision. He's either: 1. A liar 2. An imcompetent asshole unfit to hold office or 3. A combination of both 1 and 2. Really? You made the decision on your own without the president's knowledge? Do you see any justification for this Ms. Brown?

Janet Napolitano (DHS Secretary) has said that we face a grave threat from people who organize to speak out against the government. I have several legal issues with this. Namely, the first amendment. Unless I am mistaken, the greatest gift we've been bestowed was the right to freely assemble and speak out against the government. But apparently we're in the class of "domestic radicals."

Also, we are at an all-time high concerning the number of welfare/food stamp recipients. 5.4 Million people have applied for federal disability under Obama (a record) and over 45 Million people (over 1 in 7) are on food stamps. If your goal is to hand out free money and create generations of leeches to suck at the teat of working society, than mission accomplished. Personally, I find it reprehensible! This is on par with his philosophy of more government, more spending. This is evident from your list (the stolen one) anywhere a "program" exists to extend some sort of "benefit." It's easy to help people when it's not your money on the line! I think Regan's words ring more true today than ever. He said the nine most terrifying word you will hear are, "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."

So yes, you are right. Obama has done a lot in under 4 years. He is on his way to bankrupting the U.S., has formed a horrible domestic and international policy platform. I think the real question is how can anybody support this incompetent jackass after his abysmal failure during his first term, and what positive do you truly see in the man?
Marcus78's Avatar
Just to be clear though, are you pro-Obama or anti-Obama? The reason I ask is that the first part seems to slam the man, the second part is a list of his accomplishments/successes, which is highly speculative and suspect IMHO. I'll say right now, I hate the man! I think he is will go down as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history among the ranks of Buchanan, Harding and Hoover.

Ah, now I found it. The one website from whence all this garbage came.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_has_P...ma_done_so_far

The article is quite schizophrenic though, and not very well organized. It bashes the man, then praises him in the same breath. So which is it? Is he a success or failure?
+1 Marcus. I am confused too. Can't figure out if she is praising him or trashing him.

I don't think she read what she posted, IMHO! I don't think there was much research done here, contrary to what was stated at the beginning. LOL Perhaps she wishes to clarify...?

Forgive me country barbie, but i skipped the laundry list of obama things and went straight to your topless pic.

Trust me though, if you were telling me all this in person and my eyes wandered southward doesnt mean i wasnt hearing what you were saying.
In the likes of Buchanan, Harding and Hoover. Cmon Man. He is not that bad...yet. I would put George W on that list before Obama. I would also rank Buchanan as the worst president.
