Text messages

What are your thought on receiving random text messages from providers letting you know that they are in town, their availability, etc.?

Love it, quick and easy...
I always ask if the phone number doesn't come with parameters "is it okay to text you, or do you prefer pm?" I find it less invasive than asking "will your wife be ticked off if I text or call you??"
I always assume that texting is not safe –– unless the person specifically lets me know that it is okay to do so, or has just initiated texting with me themselves. Of course, if I know the person is single and we have texted randomly in the past, then that's an exception.

Not everyone has a hobby phone… And the cost for many would be too high to take that chance. I just don't think it's discreet, or wise.

Absolutely no texting UNLESS prior discussion and approval; just one man's opinion.

I say no. On my I-phone a text pops up even in the security mode. I don't really need a message that says "I'm in town next week and would like to screw your brains out" popping up. If however you would like to send me a PM here....

I never text people........this is a discreet hobby. I will tell people that you will not get calls or texts from me, but doesn't mean I don't want to see you again, it means I respect your situation. Was married once myself, and I wouldn't want the SO calling me because I was texting her SO.
Personally, I'm ok with text messages if we have an established rapport.

However, I still do not want "I'll be in town on Tuesday so let's hook up" or "I'm available today and tomorrow." I've received both messages from two different ladies this week. One around 8am, right as I'm getting to work with several co-workers around and once at 6pm while I'm hanging with a friend. I'm using Google voice on my real phone right now so both times were not cool.

If I send you a message asking for this information, please reply when you have the chance, but outside of that please say, Hi or whats up? If I respond, we can go from there.

I don't advertise everything I do to all friends. I still have a few friends that think I have a Boston accent. lol

I always ask how someone would like to be Contacted?!?!? It's not hard and I respect it I don't like recieving vulgar text myself so I definitely don't agree with that at anytime!!
I would love a PM saying, "I am in town for the week" that way I could look at my schedule for the week and make plans. I would not like texts because I do have a "hobby phone" and I don't carry it on me at all time, and I only turn it on when I need it. If you get stopped for something, and it is discovered that you are carrying two cell phones and not using one for business, and the other one for personal use will get you up close and personal with Homeland security. It doesn't take much to get you on a no-fly list.
