Hey y'all, I'm visiting this week. I'm getting excited about trying the Tex-Mex you enjoy in San Antonio.
To all you foodies-----where are some great places to enjoy.....

Fine dining?

Hole in the wall joints?

Tex-Mex??

If you watched Next Food Network Star....

Whose show would you want to watch? Top Chef Masters starts on Wednesday. Anyone like that show?

Emily,
1. Mi Tierra, 218 Produce Rd - sort of a tourist trap, but good and reliable. Well situated and entertaining. If you've never been, you should.
2. Rosarios, 910 Alamo - Food is better, but I would not call it fine dining. I've always liked this place and it gets good reviews.
3. Hole-in-the-wall - Can't remember the name. I'll think on it some. On NorthWest side. Name has two words in it, both starting with a C, I believe. Great food.

Bon Appetit.

Hi Emily. The ones mentioned above are pretty much the touristy ones, but are ok depending what you are looking for, like mariachis and such. A lot of tourists like La Fogata as well.

Hole-in-the-wall is better quality Tex-Mex, IMHO. Some I like are Garibaldi's, Blanco Cafe, Las Palapas - ok, those are not really hole-in-the-wall, but more mom-n-pop places and less commercial but more yummy.

Enjoy your stay!

In case you are not stuck on Tex Mex:

1. Most everyone on the board enjoys The Cove: Funky, cheap, music is interesting, environmental and health conscious. Fish tacos and lamb burger get top ratings.
2. Little finer is the pork chop at Perry's for Friday lunch. Go with a friend and split it. After lunch, cross the street and go to Gilly Hicks--loud music and sexy underwear, perfect!
3. Higher end, I love the Foie Gras (I know it's wrong, but I like it so much ) and the steaks are fabulous at Bohanans (pricey).

And for Tex Mex, I third the Los Barrios recommendations. I can't get enough of the chimichurri and the mole sauce is great. I'm always miserable when I leave.

Careful, we can make you fat. Have a great time while in town. Maybe we'll cross paths at lunch
I luuuuuuuv El Gallito on Wurzbach! Closest thing to my moms Mexican home cooked meals Super duper cheap too!

If you want something of a "Mexican fast-food" type Las Palapas on 410/Evers would be a good choice. Easy access and good price.
