Waco Kid's College Football pre-season

The_Waco_Kid's Avatar
What is Waco Kid's Weekly College Football Review? It is an ongoing weekly review of all things College Football!!

Each week upcoming games can be discussed and predictions made, name-calling after victories and general all-around college football discussion! Each week will be closed out by the next Monday and a new thread opened for the current college football schedule for each week.

Rules -

"Rules?? We don't need no stinkin’ rules!”

Actually we do.

WKWCFR rule 1

"Lies, damn lies and statistics!"

British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli

If you quote a stat, record, 3rd down conversion rate, an all-time mark or the number of jock straps an 85-man team needs ...

Post it! If you can't post a link to it, it's bogus!
What's valid in the Internet age? Just about anything! Any of the major sports publications, local newspapers, any of the big networks and official school and NCAA sites just to cover the big ones.

WKWCFR rule 2

Predictions must be posted 1 day in advance! If you haven't read the sports page and figgured out who's going to win by the day before ya never will!

Must be time stamped before Midnight the day before game-day, for any weekly games Thur-Sun on the current weekly schedule.

So there you have it, pretty basic! You can post on general topics of your favorite teams regardless of that week's opponent. Just remember WKWCFR rule 1

Let's get started shall we?

Thursday, Aug 30

9 S Carolina

Vanderbilt

Winner: South Carolina
Vandy is a trendy pick to be a "hot" team in the SEC, king makers perhaps. I'm going with the HBC to win this trap game opener on the road.

Friday, Aug 31

24 Boise St

13 Michigan St

Winner: Michigan St.
This is a 2 bet pick. First Smurfies impressive streak of opening W's goes down and second Sparty continues to roll with a strong home W under Dantonio. Look for Sparty to matter in the Big 10 race.

San Jose St

21 Stanford

Winner: Stanford
Cardinal have too much talent plus the home field LUCK going for them. We'll see how LUCKy they are later when PAC 12 play begins. For now expect Shaw to field a competitive team post-Luck.

Saturday, Sep 1

Miami (OH)

18 Ohio St

Winner: Ohio St.
Meyer will win in Columbus. NOW. Not next year. NOW. This is just a warm up.

Marshall

11 W Virginia

Winner: WVA
Holgerson begins where he left off in WVA's last bowl and lights it up. This is a veteran team with possibly the best QB in the Big 12.

Buffalo

6 Georgia

Winner: UGA
Richt continues to take undue heat only for not winning a BCS title. Get over it UGA fans at least he gives you a chance most years.

Sthrn Miss

17 Nebraska

Winner: Nebraska
Critical year for Bo Pelini's career leading the Children of the Corn. This one's a talent mis-match so Bo better know not to screw it up.

N Iowa

12 Wisconsin

Winner: Wisconsin
What is it with these Badgers and these transfer QB's? We don't need no stinkin' QB's just Badgers. And running backs.

Bowling Grn

23 Florida

Winner: Florida
Year 2 of Will needs to be better than Year 1. No matter who's his QB. Don't discount ex-Boise St OC Pease making UF Spurrier-like. Eventually.

Savannah St

19 Okla St

Winner: Oklahoma St.

UTube Gundy joins a short list of coaches needing a strong follow-up act to a banner year. Unless OSU's QB implodes they should have a strong season. How strong? how good's that QB?

J'ville St

10 Arkansas

Winner: Arkansas
Hogs under John L. is possibly the most intriguing team this year. They have the talent especially at QB to get it done. Petrino took over at UofL my alma mater from John L., who now takes over from Bobbo at UA. John L. may not be the play caller Petrino is but he's a proven coach and can handle a talented team.

14 Clemson

Auburn

Winner: Clemson
Go with the devil you know vs. the devil you don't. Despite getting shelled by WVA in their bowl, Dabo has proven talent. Auburn doesn't, especially at QB. Clemson could use a strong road win to open.

N Texas

3 LSU

Winner: LSU
Honey Badgers? We don't need no stinkin' Honey Badgers! LOL. well you might, in a game or two and a bowl. The Mad Hatter rolls on like a Rolling Stone and gathers 'bout 9-10 W's .. without any Badgers.

Missouri St.

22 Kansas St

Winner: K State
Snyder has won in the armpit of College Football. Twice. Why isn't this guy in the CFHoF yet?

Murray St

7 Florida St

Winner: Florida St.
This is Jimbo's year to shine. If not they start dancing with Chief Osceola around Bobby's Statue. At least it's still up.

Hawaii

1 USC

Winner: USC
Cow-a-Bunga, Dude! wake up Kiffy the ghost of Pete is calling. This is your YEAR. Don't screw the pooch. I'll pick USC as half the BCS title game. NOW.

8 Michigan

2 Alabama

Winner: Michigan
Going all in against Saban at JerryWorld. We'll see how that turns out.

Wyoming

15 Texas

Winner: Texas
Wyoming should be a good offensive opponent for UT's defense. UT is loaded at tailback look for the line to push strong and UT establishes it's rush game again. At least one of the three backs will emerge as a big time back.

4 Oklahoma

UTEP

Winner: Oklahoma
Big Game Bozo goes down to El Paso and strips Mark Price. OU has a strong non-conference schedule, providing a few old ghosts like ND play to form. If so OU's in the hunt. IF they can beat UT.

Arkansas St

5 Oregon

Winner: Oregon
possibly the second most intriguing team behind the UA Hogheads, how loud will the Nike Ducks quack this year??

Sunday, Sep 2

Kentucky

25 Louisville

Winner: Louisville
going all in with my alma mater to win the Governor's Cup. Strong could be building a Howard The Great/John L./Petrino type program. Can i get back to ya in a few years?

Monday, Sep 3

GA Tech

16 VA Tech

Winner: Tech somebody
Ok, VA Tech wins. BeamerBall after all these years as a bride's maid could be a darkhorse Prom Queen in the making.
No Tennessee vs. NC State?

I like State here, think they will be a force in the ACC.

Tenn loses and they will have their 4th coach in 5 years next year. Ouch!
The_Waco_Kid's Avatar
i only post the Top 25 games but feel free to post any games you want. As for Dooley at that other UT i think you might be a bit early to write him off. Tennessee needs continuity so unless Dooley can't win at all this year he gets another season.
Well I think Dooley has got to win 7 to keep his job, and without beating NCSU, the math isn't there playing in the SEC.

Tennessee was sorta OK with being #2 in the SEC east behind Florida, but now dropping back below Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, and maybe now Mizzou, ain't gonna cut it.

Box Score - Recap

Well looks like Son of Vince has some game in him yet. The Vols would be smart to sit tight and give Dooley his term, at least let him bring in a senior class. that's 4 years straight up no redshirts. if the Vols are at least competitive again in the SEC then they are a 9 W program and with the right team maybe the SEC crown. I'll bet on Dooley's upside and get back to ya later this year as the Vols play.

How strong, as always in the SEC, depends on A&M's defense first and foremost.

We beat a bad high school team but everybody played and the true freshman qb went 11 for 11 and I know why he got the job

I usually wait till after the Monday game which is the Tech's - VA and GA but i'll just jump on it anyway. Ah the season hath arrived! Happy happy Joy joy!

Vanderbilt

That's the 'Ol Ball Coach. even with his QB banged up he avoids a trap game to a league rival. He lives to fight on .. and throw a visor.

24 Boise St 13
13 Michigan St 17
Got the odds to roll my way where for once the Smurfs needed a great QB and didn't have him. At least not on his first start. Not like Sparty's QB didn't all but try to lose it for Sparty. If he plays like that all year Sparty might have a fall-off.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

San Jose St

21 Stanford

Winner: Stanford
Cardinal have too much talent plus the home field LUCK going for them. We'll see how LUCKy they are later when PAC 12 play begins. For now expect Shaw to field a competitive team post-Luck.

What was that about Luck? The Cardinal should have looked better. Ah well they say you improve the most between the first two games. We'll see who they really in the PAC 12.

Saturday, Sep 1

Miami (OH)

18 Ohio St

Winner: Ohio St.
Meyer will win in Columbus. NOW. Not next year. NOW. This is just a warm up.

Told you. I'll spot Pope Urbie II 9 wins out of the gate in Columbus. And they beat Michigan.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marshall

11 W Virginia

Winner: WVA
Holgerson begins where he left off in WVA's last bowl and lights it up. This is a veteran team with possibly the best QB in the Big 12.

If this guy scored in bars like his offenses do he'd be the Ultimate Leisure Suit Larry. Oh' wait he does hang out in Bars. Hmm better watch that road-housin' dude. Don't pull a Mike Price and blow yer gig.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buffalo

6 Georgia

Winner: UGA
Richt continues to take undue heat only for not winning a BCS title. Get over it UGA fans at least he gives you a chance most years.

See? You matter again. Ugga takes a piss in the hedgerows. Unless you fold in the stretch. That's Richt's one weakness, his teams sometimes wilt in the heat of the Big Bad SEC.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sthrn Miss

17 Nebraska

Winner: Nebraska
Critical year for Bo Pelini's career leading the Children of the Corn. This one's a talent mis-match so Bo better know not to screw it up.

Sthrn Miss 20
17 Nebraska 49
NU opens strong. Bo knows offense after all. Martinez clearly looks improved and not just experience his form and mechanics were far better from last year. Working with a QB Coach payed off for u bugeaters. if he plays like this all year think Roses. Or better.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

N Iowa

12 Wisconsin

Winner: Wisconsin
What is it with these Badgers and these transfer QB's? We don't need no stinkin' QB's just Badgers. And running backs.

N Iowa 21
12 Wisconsin 26
The Badgers got good QB play. They did not run the ball well, very un-Badgerlike. less that 200 yards total and only 3.8 ypc for their feature back. Badgers have some improvement to make before Big 10 play.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bowling Grn

23 Florida

Winner: Florida
Year 2 of Will needs to be better than Year 1. No matter who's his QB. Don't discount ex-Boise St OC Pease making UF Spurrier-like. Eventually.

Bowling Grn 14
23 Florida 27
Good enough Gators. Will wins with a throwback 2 QB game plan. This week anyway. Muschamp wants to pick a guy and the stats favor Driskel. Despite FatAss Weiss' NFL success i'd take ex-Smurf Pease over FatAss any day.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Savannah St

19 Okla St

Winner: Oklahoma St.

UTube Gundy joins a short list of coaches needing a strong follow-up act to a banner year. Unless OSU's QB implodes they should have a strong season. How strong? how good's that QB?

U go Gundy. Too bad this was 4-72 Savannah St. otherwise it wasn't much more than a scrimmage Cowpokes. And that 4-72 is against FCS teams. Ouch. Your real season starts next week, Pokes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

J'ville St

J'ville St 24
10 Arkansas 49
John L. shoots par for the course out of the gate. It will get tougher, Hogs but be lucky that you have a chance with John L. after the Petrino thing. Live it up while you can Hogs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

14 Clemson

Auburn

Winner: Clemson
Go with the devil you know vs. the devil you don't. Despite getting shelled by WVA in their bowl, Dabo has proven talent. Auburn doesn't, especially at QB. Clemson could use a strong road win to open.

Dabo gets exactly what he needed, a strong road win at Aubie. In some ways this was an all in must win game for Clemson given they got blown out in last years bowl game. If they want to be a player in the ACC again they needed this one to start a run.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

N Texas

3 LSU

Winner: LSU
Honey Badgers? We don't need no stinkin' Honey Badgers! LOL. well you might, in a game or two and a bowl. The Mad Hatter rolls on like a Rolling Stone and gathers 'bout 9-10 W's .. without any Badgers.

See? We don't need no stinkin' Honey Badgers! Yet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Missouri St.

22 Kansas St

Winner: K State
Snyder has won in the armpit of College Football. Twice. Why isn't this guy in the CFHoF yet?

Missouri St. 9
22 Kansas St 51
Another team with a big dual threat QB that looks improved as a returning starter. Snyder reset his CFHoF eligibility clock by returning so he'll have to wait 3 years till he's 75 as an active Coach. If he retired tomorrow he'd be immediately eligible.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Murray St

7 Florida St

Winner: Florida St.
This is Jimbo's year to shine. If not they start dancing with Chief Osceola around Bobby's Statue. At least it's still up.

Ok, Jimbo yer off and runnin'. Just don't pull a 3 game losing streak and tank yer year again .. before Halloween lol.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hawaii

1 USC

Winner: USC
Cow-a-Bunga, Dude! wake up Kiffy the ghost of Pete is calling. This is your YEAR. Don't screw the pooch. I'll pick USC as half the BCS title game. NOW.

So far, so good, so what, Kiffy? Just what you'd expect to open but it's Kiffy Sr. that's the most important Coach on USC's staff if they want to win it all.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8 Michigan

2 Alabama

Winner: Michigan
Going all in against Saban at JerryWorld. We'll see how that turns out.

Well i really whiffed on this bitch didn't I? LOL. And i knew that UM back wasn't going to play. That's the point of taking a odds off upset pick. At a neutral site to open the season. Well sounded good away ahaha! UM didn't play to Robinson's talents on offense. If i had money on it i woulda doubled down on Saban.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wyoming

15 Texas

Winner: Texas
Wyoming should be a good offensive opponent for UT's defense. UT is loaded at tailback look for the line to push strong and UT establishes it's rush game again. At least one of the three backs will emerge as a big time back.

Texas has just what i wanted. A tailback controversy. LOL. Ash showed improvement to open. Give me about 6 more games and we'll know if Ash can keep opposing teams from stacking the run.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4 Oklahoma

UTEP

Winner: Oklahoma
Big Game Bozo goes down to El Paso and strips Mark Price. OU has a strong non-conference schedule, providing a few old ghosts like ND play to form. If so OU's in the hunt. IF they can beat UT.

Well Big Game Bozo that was a real turd of a win wasn't it? Ok you won i get it. two words: 24 points.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arkansas St

5 Oregon

Winner: Oregon
possibly the second most intriguing team behind the UA Hogheads, how loud will the Nike Ducks quack this year??

Ducks take right to water and come out smokin'. Just remember Ducks, you go to the Coliseum this year. Have fun! Send a postcard too.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, Sep 2

Kentucky

25 Louisville

Winner: Louisville
going all in with my alma mater to win the Governor's Cup. Strong could be building a Howard The Great/John L./Petrino type program. Can i get back to ya in a few years?

It's been awhile since my alma mater started a year ranked, someone talked about going undefeated in the newly watered down Big Easy. NOT. Had my doubts about Strong, he of the Pope Urbie II line, but he might be on to something.
