"Upscale"

I see this all the time in ads ... "I cater to upscale gentlemen".

Soooooo ... I'm trying to see if I qualify ...

Upscale? Hmmm ... that's a bit more difficult.

If you say the word ... "upscale" to me - I'm thinking James Bond in a Tuxedo ordering a Martini (shaken not stirred). Well, I don't really drink and I think the last time I drank hard liquor it was Southern Comfort or something like that.

Hell I wouldn't be able taste, feel, or see the difference between a martini that was shaken - not stirred!

So I go to the dictionary for a ruling on this and the definition of "upscale" is ...

I don't think I'm at the top end of any social scale. I mean - I'm not a suit and tie kind of guy. I don't know anyone in a Mardi Gras Krewe - that's for sure ... I know a lot of red necks though. I do own two suits though from Men's Wearhouse - Calvin Klein ... slick

Now - I DO make a six figure income and live pretty comfortably. I drive a Honda - I think that's an up-check for "upscale" but ... it's also a truck so that may cancel out the "up-check" there. This shit is difficult here.

I tend to think the word "upscale" is kind of useless - since a lady's donation kind of puts her in the socioeconomic scale she's looking for. For instance ... someone who charges $1000 per hour is prolly going to attract a more upscale clientele - real James Bond types you know? Me? I'll pass that ad up after I have a short fantasy and drool over her picks (she's gotta be hot for $1K per hour).

I haven't even touched on the other word I find a lot ... "discerning" ... as in "upscale discerning gentlemen." It sounds a bit snobbish - and I prolly don't fit that bill!
