Any good dive bars in/close to the Arboretum area?

Looking for a laid back atmosphere, good drinks and hopefully a single woman or two. Ideas would be much appreciated.

Well just how local and divey do you want? if you like true dumpy dive bars and want to pick up Austin local weirdos and not yuppies at a Bennegans, scoot on over to Burnet road area and go to 2 that are close by each other callled the poodle dog lounge and Lala's Lil nugget on Justin.
Been to poodle dog , met a certain provider friend there , it was relaxed & divey . It has several pool tables and a shuffleboard game . Also had a band play in evening . Bring cash , they don't accept plastic !
Well you just missed Weirdo's on Parmer and Mopac. They just closed this last Friday. Other than that perhaps Sam's Boat on Braker and MoPac. There is also "C-Hunt's" (Lloyd Bridges old place!) on McNeil Road, near Braker and 183.
I'm a total dive bar girl and I'm with sue on this one(of course)! Also wanted to add ginnys little longhorn to the mix. Chicken shit bingo on Sundays!!! Fun times!!!

And RR , who was that provider?!? She sounds delightful.
But if you're looking for civie tang, nothing will do ya better than good ol 6th street! Mmmmm, smells like puke and shame!!!

Lol

Hahahaha DITTO !
Oh you know what's kinda close to arboretum is some place called D& somethin its a crazy beer joint that's got a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge beer menu. Havent been in a while, probably easily found via Google

It depends on your definition of dive bar, but the ones we mentioned are like peanut shells on the floor, popcorn at the tables, bartender has better recommendations for anything than yelp or Google!

Big vote here for Poodle Dog Lounge down the street on Burnett, been going there for years! And if you ever venture South, Horseshoe Lounge on Lamar is a South side favorite of mine...

Poodle Dog is a good one, as is LaLa's. C. Hunts is a great Icehouse too. Used to be a Deer processing facility back in the day but the owner got tired of it and decided to open a bar. His name is Chester. He ALWAYS has a good story to tell.
Chili's has doubles for 3.75 every day!!!! Try Detour on Burnet, Canary Roost on Metric, Shenanigan's on Pond Sprgs road, Stomping Grounds on Anderson Mill before Pond Spgs, and of course......Anderson Lane Tavern and Parmer Lane Tavern. MANY more up 620 area...... But I don't drink or enjoy the company in dive bars........YEAH, RIGHT!!!!!!!!

I haven't been in it, but "The Hideout" is close by and is crowded a lot of nights. I think it's a wannabe biker bar. Anyone have any impressions?
