I have never taken a vacation in my adult life. I am itching to go somewhere and enjoy some peace and quiet for a while. I am wary of leaving the US and I really don't want to take a cruise. Cruises are in the news way to much.

I have been sent to a conferences from work and I discovered like the ocean and mountains. I also warm weather. That being said I don't like tourist traps.

I was thinking Florida panhandle even though there is no Mtns but my buddy tells me I need to go to Costa Rica. Is that a fairly safe and nice place. I don't care about hobbying there. I just need a break from work and family.

When are you planning on going? The next few weeks would not be a good time to visit Florida as it is college spring break season. While the scenery with lots of nearly naked college girls would be interesting, everything would be crowded and far from relaxing. We also have Easter break coming up at the end of the month and lots of families going on vacation.

Have you considered the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Thomas & St. Croix)?

Costa Rica will give you all you can handle.
Can't go wrong with a trip to Fiji.

This has been on my long scan radar as well. It won't be long and family will be able to get along without me being so close by. I'm thinking of a 2 or 3 year walkabout I guess you would call it. The D&T forum would be another good place to ask your question or at least it was once I don't know any more.

Nash is the expert on outside states. If you want to stay close. Dallas amp capital of US, really hot girls and reasonable.
I just came back from Cabo San Lucas. I wanted to spend a week there, but I ended up staying for almost 2 months. If I didn't have to come back, I would still be there.
Cabo is beautiful. Italy and Greece are on my radar.

If you want to stay within the US, Texas is nice....NO/LA has pretty parts to it, its a tad bit humid, but great food and lots of bars.

You could also hit up Canada....hobbying is legal in most parts.

Try Hawaii. Yes, you can actually find "out of the way" places that are nice (not extravagent) and not rediculously over-priced. Every island has the two things you mention - mountains and a very LARGE ocean, and what do you know...it's actually a state in the US (it goes back and forth between the US and Japan on a regular basis). I could also suggest Alaska, but you said warm. LOL

Hope you have a good (and from the sound of it - well deserved) vacation!

Delphi (and a lot of other places with historic rocks) is a very cool place. As I recall the best parties are on Minkinos, Santorini, Rhodes, and the east end of Crete out near Iraklion (sp).
Taking a trip to Greece isn't out of the realm anymore. Just depends on who I'm going with.

If you can get a deal on the flight, Phuket (Thailand) is an incredible place. Your money goes a long way as well--the prices at the resorts are so low you'll think they're typos.
