Online computer repair companies?

Brooke Wilde's Avatar
I was wondering of anyone has experience with an online computer repair company .... something like mycleanPC.com .... I woke up today and for some reason my computer is running really slow. Something must be wrong.

Does anyone know of a good online computer repair company they can refer me to?

Thanks!

Do you have any anti virus already?

I'd just suggest you be careful if you go to GeekSquad, sometimes they will purposely Fuck with your computer so that you will have to pay them more to fix things.

How old is your computer? It could just be age related / dying...

When was the last time you rebooted your computer or defragged your hard drive?

How many porn sites are you going to on it?

Hey Brook, you might want to try this:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/malwa...FQHnnAodXQoAIw

I had a problem a while back and a buddy of mine that is in IT told be about it. You can download it for free and use it for about a month and if you decide that you like it you can buy it. I ended up buying it. Every once in a while it will go out and get updates but other than that when it detects an intrusion it will let you know.

It did fix the problem that I had. One thing to note is that depending on the size of your hard drive and that it can take a few hours to do a complete scan of your computer.

Good luck!
I second MalwareBytes, extremely useful tool.

Here are some programs that are easy to use, and might help:

CCleaner: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner- Helps cleans your hard drive, removes old temp files, etc. Easy to use and install.

If you have Windows 7, check and make sure you have it set to automatically defrag. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/

Another thing to consider is heat. As your laptop gets older, it collects dust and can't get rid of heat like it used to. Checking for heat with a program like Core Temp: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ is useful to see if you need to buy an external laptop cooler. If the temperature is spiking into the 85-90C range, go ahead and buy a cooler.

That's probably a good start for now.
@Brooke - what exactly is your pc doing or acting?
Malware and spyware will slow it down.

PM me if you want me to take a peek at it as PC repair is what I do for a living

Speedy PC Pro and Pereto Logic Privacy Controls. They are third party Windows programs and I clean my machine with them weekly. You purchase and download them on line.

They're mostly scams. I can take a look at your PC remotely real quick if you want. It's usually something simple.

There's no reason to buy software to maintain a PC.
