After being financially raped by Verizon, for almost 5 years, I finally canceled my accounts. The final straw was continually going over my web allowance at $15/GB in overage charges, no matter what plan I upgraded to.
I had heard that I could activate my Verizon iPhone 5 thru Straight Talk, even though they do not advertise to be Verizon compatible. So for $45/month Unlimited everything ($65/month Unlimited Intl. ) I took a chance. It cost $65 for the SIM card, and my first month of Unlimited. You can choose to auto pay each month, or manually pay. You must order the SIM thru the straighttalk.com website. Now thru 5/13 it's free Overnight FedEx Shipping.
I received my card yesterday. It is a standard size SIM, and the iPhone requires a nano size. I went into panic mode thinking I had been duped! After a quick Google search, and a 3 min instructional video on YouTube, I trimmed the card down to size, popped it in, and well.... Here I am posting this Thread, with my iPhone.
How's the service you ask? Well they all use each others towers, and presently I'm driving up near the Adirondack's, with full service!

I'll have to look into it and see what Verizon phones are compatible. I've been getting raped for OMG I dunno how long.... really can't remember. And a Family plan to boot. Have to do the math as 2 of our phones plans are grandfathered at unlimited data, but between all the different fees and taxes I think I'm paying between 169-180 per month? (SO does the bills.... I try not to pay attention lol it eases the pain.) (Total for 3 "smart" phones)

Let us know what the bills really are once they start coming in with every other tax known to NY State lol

I also assumed you were able to keep your old #

If a better deal is found, why stick with Verizon while they keep taking away benefits for long time customers? (Phone discounts, "new" every two, early upgrades with no penalties buy with discounts, tiered data rates now, etc etc)

If the only country you have to call/text is Canada, use Google Voice. It's free and works fine for me. Apple hates it, but I'm not sure they have been able to fuck with it, yet. Another benefit of Android land. ijs.

Sprint is about as bad as Verizon. We had 4 devices on a "Family Plan" and the bill was about $300 a Month. We took two of the devices off and we're still being charged about $200 a Month. What I don't understand is that the plan we have says "Unlimited Data" on it. But when we upgraded to newer "Smartphone" devices Sprint added a $10 a Month Data Plan fee for each of these devices. I have been considering moving (at least my phone) to a Pay as You go vendor since I don't really use it that much. I will have to look at what Straight Talk offers the next time I am at Wal-mart.

That's nice of Autumn to go out of her way to tell people about the service. You too, wantsome. And the others who shared their experiences.

Thank you,
TD

Definitely good info! I have T-Mobile which recently made the unlimited data truly unlimited, they no longer slow the internet once you hit 5 megabytes or whatever, it's awesome. My bill is $85 per month.

The only problem with T-mobile is spotty coverage. Where I am it works great but if you head outside a city it's easy to lose 4G coverage.
