I’ve been away from the Forum for a while and did a lot of catching up today. Certainly, not to be critical or the grammar police – please take this in the spirit intended – use paragraphs. My eyes and head are killing me right now! Some write a treatise and don’t break with paragraphs. You don’t have to be an English major. Please, just break up the text.
Anyway, getting to the point: DD’s thread, “Reviews ... a comment for both the ladies & gents”.
While reading everyone’s valuable insights on the topic, something came to mind – something analogous to eBay. Both the Buyer and the Seller are akin to the Reviewer and the “Reviewee” here on ECCIE.
When shopping eBay, it’s always wise to not only research the Seller’s Feedback Profile, but also the Buyer’s Feedback Profile.
The Seller, at first blush, may get the lion’s share of attention when one considers a purchase. What Buyers doing business with this Seller were satisfied, which were not? Now we have a quick overview of the Seller’s history (good or bad). But what’s revealed when probing the Buyer?
Investigating Buyer history may very well unearth a pattern. Buyers giving said Seller a bad rating, upon closer scrutiny, may have a history of being problematic to all Sellers. Invalid complaints, unreasonable demands, etc. are descriptors that may become all too apparent.
So, I guess, what I’m trying to say in a roundabout way is this; when deciphering the validity of ECCIE reviews, consider all sources. Of course, what’s reviewed with reference to the Provider should carry weight. But what about the reviewer?
We can, most often, identify and validate by searching other reviews of an individual Provider by certain members; we can look at the reviews of different Providers by one member; we can, basically, generalize personality types and credibility by the member's musings in posts by engaging the “Find All Posts By” feature of the Forum. Then we can better decide whether or not to place credence in what we read.
Please respond if you think I’m full of shit!!!
Those that know me know I don’t review. So let me reiterate why. This was posted in DD’s thread:
The dynamics of this community and reviews, in particular, can be pretty complex...
I, myself, don't review. What’s good for me may not be good for the next person or vice versa. The relationship and interaction between two people is synergetic. There are just too many variables.
